Highlights

Big particles diffuse sl0wer than small particles, according to Einstein. Not so when they are embedded in a complex landscape. 

It is notoriously difficult to align collagen in a controlled way. We develloped a rheological protocol to do so, and align cells in the oriented collagen matrix.

Dispersions of slender rod-like viruses are vey viscous at at very low concentrations. We show how and why viscosity drops under the influence of shear, using a library of viruses, small-angle neutron scattering, rheology, and, last but not least, updated theory.
